What is Push & Pull Maize
Pull and pull is the name of a method for growing maize biologically which improves the quality and the quantity of the maize harvest. That is not our invention; we found this method on the internet from a researcher and we tested it.
Push & Pull briefly summarized
Around the maize field 3 rows of Napier grass are planted which prevents insects and beetles from flying into the maize field. The insects prefer the Napier grass and therefore they stay in this area. And to prevent maize from the so called stalk borer, a plant called desmodium is planted between the maize rows. The stalk borer prefers the roots of desmodium so that the maize stalk can be able to develop without being affected.
Apart from maize we can also harvest napier grass and desmodium which are good feeds suitable for cows. Desmodium seeds can also be sold at good price and thus increase the yield of the maize field.
For more details your can refer to the push-pull.net which describes this concept well and a detailed instructions for the procedure. We therefore do not wish to give a description in detail, but we would like to concentrate on illustrations of our experiences.
